Scandal: Nasarawa DPO removed over extortion of hoteliers

By Musa Tanimu Nasidi

Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Adesina Soyemi, has ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ombi 1 Lafia, SP Ugochukwu Theodore.

The DPO allegedly wrote all hotels in his jurisdiction, demanding N240,000 from each of them to repair the official Toyota Hilux given to him for patrol.

In the letter to the hoteliers, the DPO reportedly said the Hilux needed four new tyres, each N50,000.

Theodore was also alleged to have demanded N40,000 to carry out some electrical work and welding.

In return for the gesture, the hotels would be effectively protected, it was said.
