Khalifah Sanusi 11, 3 Days Historical Visit To Lokoja

Former Emir of Kano and Khalifah of Tijjaniya brotherhood in Nigeria, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi 11 embarked on a three days visit to Lokoja to meet members of Tijjaniya brotherhood and Muqqaddams from the area.

The former Emir who arrived Lokoja Thursday paid a courtesy called on Maigari of Lokoja ,His Royal Highness Alhaji ( Dr) Muhammadu Kabir Maikarfi 111 at his palace.

On the 2 day of his visit,the former Emir led the juma’a service at Lokoja Central mosque where he led thousands of muslim worshipers.

He also visited the tombs of late sheikh Shuiabu Kenchi, and Sheikh Ibrahim Yabagi at their cantoment residence,who were among the crops of Muqqaddams that emerges after the emergence of Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass Tijjaniya order (Faila) in1949.

On Saturday,Sanusi visited Zawiyya of sheikh Yusuf Abdallah,where he was received by Khalifah justice Nurudeen Yusuf Abdallah.

In 1952, Sheikh Yusuf Abdallah made his first trip to Kaolack, Senegal where he remained for over five months studying books on Sufism and the Tijjaniya order under sheikh Ibrahim Nyass. Back in Nigeria,sheikh made his second trip to Kaolack, Senegal, this time to obtain permission from sheikh Ibrahim Nyass to publish his ( Nyass) works in Nigeria,which was granted.

Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass accompanied by Khalifah Sanusi 1 and other Muqqaddams from kano visited Lokoja and were received by sheikh Yusuf Abdallah and other Muqqaddams from Nyass FAILA Tijjaniya community in Lokoja .

In his remarks,the former Emir described his visit as historical.
“My grandfather accompanied sheikh Ibrahim Nyass to Lokoja as we can all see from the photos presented to me,all those that were on the entourage of Khalifa Sanusi 1 today their grandchildren like me are all here in Lokoja as member of my entourage” he explained.

He described Lokoja as a center of learning and legitimate trade.

Sanusi Charged parents to see education as a priority for their children so that they could be good to the family and society.

The former monarch also called on members of Tijjaniya order to live in peaceful coexistence with their neighbours.

Earlier in his welcome address,Khalifa justice Nurudeen Yusuf Abdallah thanked the former Emir for the visit and assured him of their loyalty.

Abdallah explained further that the Zawiyya sheikh Yusuf Abdallah had since established schools and colleges over a decade.

“On your called to educate our children, especially the younger generations,sheikh Yusuf Abdallah had since early 50s established Mahadi and institute of Islamic and Arabic studies here in Lokoja.

“Let me use this medium on behalf of sheikh Yusuf Abdallah Zawiyya under my leadership to reaffirmed our allegiance to you as the leader of Tijjaniya order in Nigeria” he said.

Highlights of the visit was a meeting held with members of sarkin Kano Aliyu Abdullahi Mai sango family in Lokoja where the emir charged them to unite and leave in peace with the people of the area.

From there, Khalifah sanusi visited the oldest Zawiyya in the entire North Central.

The Zawiyya of Sheikh Abdulsalam madabo was built in 1904.

He was received by the decedants of Sheikh Abdulsalam and other Muslim ummah from the area.

Before his departure,the former Emir visited the tombs of his great-grandfather,Sarkin Kano Alu.

Emir Aliyu Abdullahi (Maisango), who died in 1924, was the great-grandfather of Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi 1 ,

The tomb of the late deposed emir is situated within the premises of the Lokoja Local Education Authority Primary School in Kabawa, enclosed in a building with perimeter fencing and a gate constructed by the administration of former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau to prevent intrusion

The reign of Amir Aliyu Babba was brought to an end by the colonial invasion after strong resistance by the Kano force on February 3, 1903. The colonial forces crushed the brave opposition mounted by towns and villages on their way to Kano from Zaria. The Emir was captured by the colonialists while on his way to Kano and exiled to Lokoja where he died in 1924.

He later visited the tomb of late emir of zazazau,Malam Aliyu Dan sidi.

Emir of Zazzau, Malam Aliyu Dansidi, great grandson of the first Fulani Emir of Zazzau, Malam Musa Bamalli, was grandfather to the present Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Nuhu Bamalli.

The late Emir Aliyu was under the tutelage of his teacher, Malam Abubakar Limamin Durum, from age 5 and eventually became the Emir of Zazzau at the age of 62. He reigned for 18 years before his dethronement in 1921. He was taken to Ankpa and later Lokoja on exile just like his predecessor.

Khalifah sanusi was accompanied on the visit by his wives ,sisters, aides and daughter of Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass he has since departed.
