Hon. Harun Isah: Why We Mobilize Our People to Register

By THEANALYSTMEDIA.

Former Member representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency, Hon. Harun Isah has reiterated the critical importance of voter registration as the foundation of participatory democracy, calling on Nigerians across all regions to take the ongoing registration exercise seriously.

Speaking during a media chart with THEANALYSTMEDIA reporter in Abuja, the former lawmaker underscored that mobilizing citizens to register is not merely a political gesture but a civic obligation aimed at deepening democratic participation and ensuring inclusive governance.

We mobilize our people to register because the right to vote — the power to choose leaders and shape the nation’s destiny — begins with being on the register,”Isah declared.

“If our people are not registered, their voices are silenced, and their interests go unheard in the corridors of power.”

He noted that many Nigerians, particularly those in rural communities, remain unregistered due to limited access to information, logistical challenges, and misconceptions about the process. According to him, this situation threatens the fairness and representativeness of the nation’s elections.

Hon. Isah explained that his initiative to mobilize citizens through community sensitization, grassroots campaigns, and partnerships with youth and women groups is designed to bridge that gap. “Every eligible Nigerian must understand that registering to vote is a duty — not to any individual or party, but to the nation,” he said.

The lawmaker further emphasized that robust voter registration figures strengthen political accountability and development outcomes. “A well-registered populace has greater influence over governance. It ensures that elected officials remain answerable to the people, not to a select few,” he added.

He also urged religious and traditional leaders to lend their voices to the campaign, stressing that the exercise transcends partisan lines. “This is about building a stronger democracy,” he concluded. “Our collective future depends on how many of us take part in this fundamental process.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has continued to urge Nigerians to register, review their voter details, and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 forthcoming general elections.
