Championing Change: EJINYERE’s 2-Year Journey in WUEDA

By Stella Odika

“Leadership is an action, not a position.” – Donald Mc-Cannon.

This timeless quote aptly captures the essence of Hon. Prince Godwin Eguriase Ejinyere, Director General, Warri/Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA). In just two years of purposeful leadership, he has distinguished himself as a man of vision and action, passionately championing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda to restore Warri, Uvwie, and environs as the vibrant economic hub of Delta State.

Hon. Ejinyere’s journey into leadership is a testament to preparation, competence, and passion for service. With a pedigree of over a decade of professional experience as an engineer at Chevron Nigeria Ltd (CNL), a former Chairman of Okpe Local Government Council, and the immediate past Executive Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, he has consistently proven his capacity for effective leadership with an heritage of responsibility and dignity that continues to shape his approach to governance and service.

It is this wealth of professional and administrative experience that he brings to WUEDA, where he is entrusted with the enormous responsibility of driving integrated development across Warri, Uvwie, and environs.

In alignment with Governor
Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda, Hon. Ejinyere has faithfully translated the Governor’s aspirations into tangible results.

According to a leadership expert, Warren Bennis, “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.” Indeed, Ejinyere has not only embraced the Governor’s vision but has also transformed it into visible projects that are redefining the landscape of Warri and Uvwie.

Notable among them, is the bold move to confront flooding, a challenge that for years had troubled residents and stifled development. Through strategic flood control projects in Effurun/Warri (Phase III), Warri Stadium and its environs, has seen significantly reduced in the menace of flooding. These interventions go beyond engineering works; they are lifelines safeguarding homes, businesses, and livelihoods while restoring public confidence in Governor Oborevworei’s led administration.

Building on this, WUEDA has also championed road rehabilitation, reconstruction, and new construction projects across Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas. These roads are more than asphalt and concrete; they are reshaping urban mobility, easing traffic congestion, connecting communities, and enhancing economic activity. From the rehabilitation of NNPC Housing Complex Road to the asphalt overlay of Ugboroke Housing Estate Roads, and from the construction of Mowoe Street, Agbassa to the reconstruction of Aya Street, Effurun, Ejinyere’s imprint is visible across the agency’s mandate areas.

Some of the notable completed and ongoing projects include:

Today, residents and business owners testify to the relief that comes with motorable roads, reduced flooding, and improved urban aesthetics, hereby attracting both local and international investors.

Two years may appear brief, but the milestones recorded under Ejinyere’s stewardship at WUEDA paint the picture of a future full of promise. His commitment to Governor Oborevwori’s vision remains unwavering, and his focus on sustainable development signals that even greater achievements lie ahead.

As Warri, Uvwie, and environs continue their journey back to becoming the economic pride of Delta State, one name will stand tall in the chronicles of this rebirth, Hon. Prince Godwin Eguriase Ejinyere, noble Prince of Okpe Kingdom, who has proven that leadership, indeed, is action and not a position.
