Insecurity: Lokoja Legislative Council Adopt Adamu’s Motion On Compulsory Installation Of CCTV By Hotels

The Local Government Council leader and chairman Standing Committee on security,Hon. Ali Adamu Danladi, on Thursday moved a motion on the need for Hotels operating in Lokoja Local Government to install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) to curb the menaces of insecurity in the area.

Adamu, APC councilor representing Ward D, who motion was seconded by honourable Abdullahi katu Muhammed said the rate at which hotels are harbouring suspected criminals due to lack of CCTV cameras has becoming a source of security threat to the area.

Adamu while leading the debate, stated that the recent murdered of photo journalist,Mr Ayepeku Ayo by Adabayo Pelumi ,a correction office and the mysterious death of the alleged suspect in a hotel in Lokoja, without concrete invidence occured due to lack of CCTV cameras in the hotel.

The motion which was passed by the council through voice votes, would be transmitted to the council chairman for his ascent .

The motion reads: “The Council Leader, my Honourable colleagues, it has become expedient for me to move this: motion to: improve the security situation of our dear Local Government.

Whereas, you are aware of recent murder of a photo Journalist Aiyepeku Ayo, by Adebayo Pelumi, a correction officer.

Whereas, you are also aware of the mysterious death of the alleged culprit Adébayo Pelumi in a Hotel in Lokoja metropolis.

Whereas, part V, section 52, subsection 2, confer on the Local Government the responsibility to protect lives and properties within the Local Government.

My Honurable colleagues, in view of the foregoing, I hereby move the motion that, this council forward to the Executive Chairman the following resolutions.

(1) That, the Local Government should make it compulsory for all Hotels’ operating in the Local Government, to install Closed
Circuit Television (CCTV) for effective monitoring of people coming in and going out of the hotels.

(2)That, in order to ensure compliance, a committee should be set up by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Adamu, comprising of security agents, representative of Hotel owners and officials of Lokoja Local Government.
