A socio-cultural organisation, Lokoja Forum of Patriots,has described the claimed by Emmanuel shelika over Etsu Nupe Lokoja “as new to the people of Lokoja and importantly the legally recognised three ruling houses”
Addressing Newsmen at the forum’s office in Lokoja,on Thursday, chairman of the group and former executive secretary,Kogi state pilgrims Board,Alhaji Baba’ango Idris explained that Lokoja has witnessed inter tribal relationship among various ethnic group such as Nupe, Yoruba, Igbira Koto, Hausa, Kakanda, Kupa stressing that despite it cosmopolitan nature,the people are have been leaving in peace and harmony for decades.
He said the claimed of Etsu Nupe of Lokoja by Emmanuel Shelika,is nothing but self inflicted and fakes assumptions which is,’ new to the people of Lokoja and importantly the ruling houses of Lokoja,”
Baba’ango expressed the forum’s dismayed over Shelika’s self acclaimed non existing stool in Lokoja traditional institutions.
According to him” Lokoja has witnessed inter tribal relationship among various ethnic group such as Nupe, Yoruba, Igbira Koto, Hausa, Kakanda, Kupa respectively, therefore any attempts to disunite us will be resisted .
He explained that,” there was never a time in ‘the history of Lokoja that we have an Etsu as the chief of Lokoja.
“Today we have Etsu of Adankolo who is in charge of Community that form part of Lokoja.! The big question that
comes to mind is that can we have two Etsu in one community”? Baba’ango queried .
They called on Shelika to desist from what they described as “his desire and attempt to acquire the throne of Etsu Nupe Lokoja which has never existed in the history of Lokoja”
The chairman called on the Executive Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu and the State Government to address this case with urgent attention, as “we cannot have Maigari of Lokoja and have Etsu of Lokoja”
He maintained further that Lokoja people have been leaving in peace stressing that any attempts to disunite them in the name of tribe or religion wouldn’t be accepted.
The briefing which took place at the forum secretariat,was attended by Hon. Isah Umar, comrade Gambo NULGE Alhaji Nda Colis among others .
