The Ohimegye of Igu Kingdom, Alhaji Dr Saidu Akawu Salihu has expressed his gratitude to God for life and good health in his one year on the throne of his forefathers, describing the last one year as Ohimegye Igu Kingdom as very exciting and challenging as well.
The Royal Father made the disclosure in a chat with newsmen to mark his one year anniversary on the throne.
He appealed to the people to join hands with him in building a more prosperous and united Igu Kingdom.
The Ohimegye urge the people of Igu Kingdom to take solace in the teaching of the script of Almighty Allah that today he will be in charge of the affairs of the kingdom.
He urged them to have it at the back of their mind that his emergence is the script of Almighty Allah, appealing to the people to join hands with him to build a more united and virile Igu Kingdom.
The mornarch maintained that no development can take place in the midst of rancour and disunity, explaining that the last one year was eventful, with so much to be achieved in the coming years only if the people are united.
“The story of my ascension is very clear, it has left the society with some division and so all I have been doing is to build up to see how we would bring every segment together, and to God Be the Glory we are achieving that gradually.
In terms of communal peaceful coexistence, we have made it a priority to see that areas where there is disagreement we bring the party’s and stakeholders, we thank God we are making progress.
“I must tell you that one of the area of my core achievement is that we are more united than ever, everybody is speaking as one entity as people of Igu Kingdom. Honestly, we cannot quantify that measure of achievements.
“We have been able to bring in men and people of Goodwill to work with as a team. Collectively, working together, the team is taking Igu Kingdom to a level of prosperity. I must use this occasion to thank the council members. If God keeps us alive, the years ahead promises to be more exciting and fulfilling. So far, the journey has been so good.
“We have been having some detering distractions and it is natural that the people of the man I succeeded will naturally be bittered and hold on to their position but gradually talking with them they are seeing reasons to make Igu Kingdom paramount. So the kingdom is coming back as one.
“I appeal to them to see what has happened as the script of Almighty Allah. A Muslim knows that whatever you are, whatever you will be has been scripted, years before you where born. So we are only working a trajectory that is only scripted by Almighty Allah. Here we are almost 80-90% of people of faith. I urge my people to take solace in this teaching that this is the script of Almighty Allah that today I will be in charge of the affairs of this kingdom. Sometimes back, a year ago, somebody was in charge I was not. If you have that at the back of your mind, everything that comes you will be able to deal with it. My appeal is that we all come as one, because there is no development that can come in an atmosphere of acrimony, in an atmosphere of bitterness. So I use this occasion to enjoin my brothers to all come and reason together to move the kingdom forward.
The Ohimegye pointed out that the role of Traditional Rulers should be enhanced with constitutional roles, pointing out that in the immediate post independent constitution, Council of Chiefs had some level of executive powers.
“The words of Traditional Rulers were like iron cast. Today, you cannot on your own sanction any belligerent Constituents or citizens of the Kingdom.
“You have to abdicate and when you pass your judgement you see it been politely rebuff and you don’t have that legal power to enforce.
“So if the constitution guarantees the traditional rulers to have some elements of executive powers, we should be able to enforce some of this decision we should take. Because we are the next layer to the people, it will serve this country well for the traditional rulers to be saddled with some constitutional roles because Traditional Rulers feel the pulse of the people better than any the person.
“Every day you are receiving people with one complain or the other. You understand their language, their psychology. That can only serve to better the system. That would also make the Traditional Rulers to be in control and just be better for the society.
