By News Desk

The displaced Bassa people in Toto local government area of Nasarawa state have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to save them from extermination by returning them to their ancestral land to enable their children enjoy their God-given potentials.

A save our soul statement issued by the President, National Bassa Youth Development Association (NBYDA), Mr Isaac Daniel Ndazhaga, and made available to newsmen, Tuesday, “The Bassa people of Toto local government area of Nasarawa state (were) unjustly forced into exile since April 2018 due to communal clashes,” and have since then been unable to return to their ancestral home.

“Our ancestral home in Toto LGA holds great significance for us, not only as a physical place but also as a source of identity and historical connection. However, due to the circumstances beyond our control, we were forced to leave our homes and livelihood, resulting to immeasurable suffering and untold hardship.

“Our parents can no longer afford education of their children due to the displacement.

It is even disheartening that despite the passage of over five years, the state government under the watch of H.E. Engr. A. A Sule has never for once shown adequate concern over the displaced Bassa people, neither has he sent government representatives to see how this people survive or cope in the places of exile.

“Mr. President, we wonder what kind of offence we have committed to Nasarawa State Government to deserve this cruel treatment. Your Excellency, the prolonged absence of any concrete action or acknowledgement only adds to the anguish suffered by the Bassa people.

“Therefore, we kindly request your drastic measure as the highest authority in the land to ensure that justice is served to return the Bassa people back to their ancestral homes,” the statement said.

Urging Mr. President to take immediate action, the people expressed pain over their inability to celebrate some of their festivities in exile “while Nigerians and others around the globe celebrate in the comfort of their homes with their families and loved ones.
