‘We have no power to re-open Schools, STETSCOM Chairman

The Executive Chairperson of Kogi State Science, Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission (STETSCOM), Mrs. Cecilia cook has said it is only the state ministry of education, science and Technology that has the power to reopen schools in the state.

Cook made the disclosure while reacting to rumors going the round on social media that the Commission has directed schools to resume Monday,15th June 2020.

She described the rumors as ‘the handwork of mischiefmakers, stressing further that the Commission does not have the powers to direct schools to reopen except the Ministry Of Education, Science and Technology.

Cook who spoke through the Information Officer of the Commission, Mr. Onighaye Alfred Talabi said;

“We cannot reopen schools because it is not within the mandate of the, it is only the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology under the leadership of our pragmatic Commissioner, Hon. Wemi Jones.

“the Executive Chairman of STETSCOM has not directed schools to reopen, schools will definitely resume soon. The Principals and Teachers should disregard the report as it is not true. As a Commission, we disassociate ourselves from it.” he said.
