The NNPP senatorial candidate for Kogi west senatorial District in the February 2023 election,Hon. Muhammad Ibuku Abubakar Bukky has debunked rumours going round,alleging that he has received gratification from APC senatorial candidate and the incumbent senator representing Kogi west senatorial District, Senator Sunday Karimi.
In a chart with newsmen recently in Abuja,said he went to National Assembly election petition tribunal sitting in Lokoja,the Kogi state capital to challenge the illegal exclusion of his party ( NNPP) by the electoral .
You’ll recall that my party logo was omitted and not visible on the ballot papers, during the February senatorial election, which created confusion and lost of substantial votes across the Seven Local Government area
This illegal exclusion of my party made the party the NNPP, I to approached tribunal where my team of lawyers filed our petition against the victory of APC and it candidate,Hon Sunday Karimi.
Before the commencement of hearing, some leaders, includes, Alhaji Sulaiman Baba, an APC chieftain and leader of the party in Lokoja local government area,invited me and the then senator- elect, Hon Sunday Karimi for a roundtable discussion. The meeting was centred on the petition.
At the meeting, Hon Suleiman Baba Ali, appealed to me to withdraw the petition for settlement out of court.
On the 30th of April 2023 i withdrew the suit challenging the victory of the All Progressive Congress candidate ( APC), and it candidate, Hon Sunday Karimi.
The suit like I mentioned earlier, which also joined the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) for poorly inclusion of the party’s LOGO on the ballot paper,disenfranchise my teeming supporters to identify the Party LOGO and vote for him at the polls.
Bukky maintained that despite this violation of the 1999 construction,as ammended,by INEC, the withdrawal became necessary after wide consultation with his team supporters and stakeholders across the Senatorial district.
We decided to step down the suit without requesting for all the expenses spent before, during and after the election.
“Karimi on his own volition,promised to pay for the legal fee to our team of lawyers. This commitment he made in the presence of the convener of the meeting, Hon Suleiman Baba Ali. This commitment is yet to be fulfilled.
It’s obvious that Hon Sunday Steven Karimi never appreciated neither accord respect to the leaders, includes,my senior brother,Alhaji Zakari Abubakar Ola ,to whom I hold with high esteem.
Finally,I want to use this medium to call on our teaming members, followers and well wishers, that should remain calm and ignore the rumours been spread by our detractors.
We must remain focus and ensure that our party emerge victorious come November 11,2023 Guber election.
