Worried by the spate of kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry and incessant killing bedevilling Kogi State recently, the Coalition of Political Parties has challenged security agencies to step up their game and avert further loss of lives in the state.
The coalition, in a statement signed by its leader, Hon. Ibrahim Itodo, decried the worsening security situation in Kogi state.
It was earlier reported that eight police officers and many civilians were killed in a robbery attack in Isanlu, Yagba East local government of the state. While the state is still trying to come to terms with the incident, some daredevil armed robbers, on June 10th, succeeded in killing two persons and whisked many travellers into unknown destinations without being intercepted by the security operatives in the state.
Looking at the aforementioned incidents and many others that had been reported in the three senatorial districts of the state, Itodo averred that the perpetrators of all these despicable acts should immediately apprehended without further delay as residents can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed.
Part of the statement read: “Not very long ago, armed rubbers killed 8 police officers on duty n some civilians. Also on the 10th of June, Ofodile, the owner of a popular supermarket was also killed in cold blood.
“We frown at this incessant killings and therefore call on the security agencies to redouble their efforts to bring the perpetrators to book because if this is not quickly unravelled nobody knows who is next.
“The coalition sympathize with the families of this unfortunate events too much to bear but may God console the bereaved.
“We appeal to the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to re-strategize on the operations of the security agencies to enable them maintain the peace Kogi State is known for under his watch.
“Kogi State is known for peace, we employ all and sundry to help security agencies by providing accurate information to bring this wanton killings to the end,” the statement concluded.
