Crisis Rocks Lokoja Motorcycle Transport Union

Some aggrieved Members of the Newly registered Okada Riders Association have appealed to the state government to intervene in the crisis rocking the association.

Part of the allegations levelled against the Baba guguru-led union includes, intimidation, harassment and intimidating of it members of the newly registered association.

The former members of Kogi state motorcycle transport Association alleged that the association led by Baba Guguru executives ordered its officials to enbound any member of the newly registered association that failed to pay for receipt of their Association, despite the fact that they ceased to be members.

Ibrahim Musa also alleged that the chairman of motorcycle transport Association unilaterally use the introduction of new multiple levels for Okada Ridders in the state capital to exploit its members instead of getting things done for them at reduced rates.

According him majority of Okada riders resigned their membership of the Baba Guguru-led motorcycle transport Association due to what he described as lack of good leadership, extortion and harassment among others.

” With the removal of subsidy and high cost of leaving, our former union introduced illegal levels where members are forced to pay N500 level for carrying two passengers”

He stated further that the chairman of the Union, Babagugu have turned the union into his ” personal property” while the welfare of its members are neglected

ThEANLYSTNG recalls that some commercial motorcyclists in Lokoja staged a protest over alleged abuse of power by their leaders.

While contacted, an executive member of the newly registered motorcycle riders association in Lokoja, who doesn’t want his name in print
charged his members to remain focus and ensure that the current peaceful atmosphere being enjoyed in the state is sustained.

Adding that they must always channel their complaints appropriately and in accordance with the law.

When contacted,state chairman of motorcycle transport Association,Comrade Gimba said efforts is be made by Lokoja local government council to resolve the lingering crisis.

All efforts to reached Baba Guguru by this reporter failed, as he refused to pick calls.
