Following the impeachment of ms Blessing Bala Ogwu, on Wednesday as the Lokoja Local council leader for an alleged involvement in financial misappropriation of funds,a new Council leader have emerged , She is Hon. (Mrs) Adam Rukayya, Councillor representing Ward C, Lokoja Local Government.
Ogwu was impeached after an extensive deliberations by council members at the plenary session ,the deliberations includes; Ogwu’s alleged involvement in financial misappropriation, dishonesty, disregard for her colleagues and taking decisions unilaterally without recourse to the Council rules and regulations.
While speaking during the plenary session,the council leader noted that as the third tier of government,an arm closet to the grassroots,it is obvious that they maintain check and balances for the benefits of Lokoja people who gave them their mandate to represent them.
“As representatives of our communities and wards we must keep the executive on their toes not remain be docile.
We must begin to demand that the people be truly served and this must start at the grassroot.”
The majority leader, Hon. Salihu representing Ward D moved the motion for the impeachment while Hon. Adamu Adoga Yusuf representing Oworo Ward Seconded. This was immediately followed by the nomination and subsequent election of Hon. Mrs. Adam Rukayya as the new council leader.
In her acceptance speech, the new council leader, Hon.(Mrs)Adam Rukayya thanked the members for the confidence reposed on her.
Rukayya who was overwhelmed, seek the corporation of principal officer of the council and other colleagues promised to discharge her duties to the best of her ability for the interest Lokoja local government and the the state in general.
“We all know our responsibility and we know representing the opinions of the local people is a very important function and responsibility that we must uphold.”
“On behalf of myself and other Principal officers, I promise that we will be transparent and diligent in the discharge of our duties.”
The resolutions of the legislative arm and the new developments have since been sent to the Ag. Chairman, Hon. Comfort Ife and other relevant authorities.
