AN OPEN LETTER TO PROFESSOR SALISU OGBO, THE RECTOR, KOGI STATE POLYTECHNIC.

BY THEANALYSTMEDIA

Dear professor,

I have been following with keen interest your developmental strides ( infrastructure and academic) that earn you respect, popularity and accolades since you assumed the leadership of the polytechnic. I would not mince word to say that your performance is second to none. I stress that I am one of your fans whose leadership style and antecedents endeared you to my heart.
My dear prof, you are bequeathing good legacy for restoring decorum and sanity as you succeeded in changing the sorry state you met the institution where examination malpractice, certificate rocketeering , cultism and other social ills were prevalent. Thanks for your pro activeness and the zeal with which your management team handled the situation head long.
The unprecedented hike in school fees that make the parents and the students wagging not minding the prevailing economic realities that is biting harder in all homes needs urgent review. You are part and parcel of the society especially our dear kogi state where civil service remains her major industry while salary is the main source of income to most parents. I expected the school to make wider consultations with the critical stakeholders in the education industry to weigh the pros and coins before rushing to final decision ( the state House of Assembly, the ministry of education, ministry of justice, Humanitarian affairs, the parents, Nakoss among others. With this development, how do you expect parents with multiple children to do? Are we saying that higher education is for highest bidder? We should not forget in a hurry where we come from and our background simply because we are opportuned to be find ourselves on the top. We should always allow our actions and in actions to be guided by the fear of God almighty. By God design we are not created equal and we can never be equal.
My prof, the timing you chose to increase the school fees is wrong. This is campaign period, except if you choose to deliberately create a gap for the opposition political parties to launch unnecessary attacks on the state government, whom is defined as education friendly government.
Honestly speaking two hundred percent hike in school fees would certainly deprive the children of the down trodden to have access to the polytechnic to quench their thirst for higher education.
Kogi poly is a state – owned institution as such you should hurriedly stop comparing her with Federal University, Lokoja the is owned by the federal government and degree awarding institution. Make comparison with Kwara, Benue, Nasarawa, Niger and plateau states who share similar feature with kogi state as educationally disadvantaged states.
The earlier you revisit the outrageous two hundred percent increase the better for the sake of the good name you earlier earned for yourself, the parents and the students.
