The Executive Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, today received Pharmacist Zakari Abubakar, Head of the Abuja Operations Office of NEMA and other officials in his office in Lokoja.
Leading the delegation to the Secretariat, the Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hon. Muktar Atima stated that both NEMA and SEMA had swung into action immediately to assess the impact of the recent flood in Kabba and Lokoja Local Government Areas.
In his remarks, Pharmacist Zakari Abubakar stated the even though Kogi is one of the states in the Disaster Emergency list, the flood came earlier than anticipated.
“Immediately the information got to us, the DG NEMA directed us to visit and sympathize with the people impacted, assess the extent and impact with a view to coming back to give support.” He thanked the Chairman for his insightful contributions during the stakeholders engagement.
While taking the delegation to visit the affected Communities, the Council Chairman thanked both SEMA and NEMa for the quick response. He appealed to the Federal and State Government to quickly come to the aid of the communities who have lost their shelter and hundreds of millions worth of properties.
“In view of the impending flooding, Lokoja Local Government is already working to establishment her own emergency operation centers for a quick and seemless response to all natural disaster.” He added.
