NIWA Area Manager Seeks Lokoja Local Government’s Collaboration to Enhance Inland Waterways Safety

The Area Manage of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Lokoja, Engineer Adoga Titus Samuel, has called for closer collaboration between Lokoja Local Government Council to improve safety and security on Area’s inland waterways.

Engineer Samuel made the called during a visit to the Lokoja local council chairman,Comrade Abdullahi Adamu in his office on Thursday in Lokoja.

He emphasised the need for collective action to address the sector’s pressing challenges, especially the attitudes of riverine communities towards river transportation safety.

“Safety and security are the backbone of a thriving inland waterways transportation system. Without them, the sector cannot reach its full potential,” adoga stated.

He appealed to local government to partner with NIWA in areas such as public safety campaigns,to enhance the sector’s resilience.

The area manager maintained further that today’s meeting will collectively chart a new course toward safer and more secure inland waterways transportation in Lokoja local government area and the state in general.

He commended comrade Adamu, who he described as” the best council boss Lokoja local government council ever had.
” As an Oworo man,am bold to say that you made us proud.
You’re the best chairman base on you superlative performance since you assumed office” he said.

Responding,comrade Adamu while thanking engineer Adoga and his team for the visit, assured him of the local government readiness to partner with the NIWA.

Adamu outlined several initiatives undertaken by his administration to bolster safety, including the assessment of victims of last year Kupa Boat mishap.

He acknowledged NIWA support during the incident and promised to prioritised discussions on water transport and safety as “Lokoja local government is sorounded by riverine communities.

Highlights of the visit was the presentation of safety kits to the council boss ,comrade Abdullahi Adamu.
