Kogi State Council of Ulama’u donates N100,000 each to 28 vulnerable persons

The Council of Ulama’u of Nigeria, Kogi state Chapter, on Sunday disbursed the sum of N100,00 each to 28 vulnerable persons across the 21 local government areas of Kogi state.

The distribution of over N3 million was held at the third edition of disbursement of Zakat endowment and sadaqat committee organised by council of Ulama’u, Kogi state chapter.

Chairman of the committee who doubled as the chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Sulaiman Baba Ali, commended members of the committee, saying that Zakat as the third pillar of Islam was meant to ensure a fair and just distribution of wealth among Muslims, especially the vulnerable persons among Muslims Ummah.

He urged Muslims to cultivate the habit of giving, as enshrined in the Holy Quran.

Ali noted that payment of Zakat being the third pillar of Islam is compulsory for all Muslims, stressing that Zakat been the islamic way of alleviating poverty amongst less privileged appealed to well meaning individuals in the society and enjoined Muslims to always pay their Zakat regularly.

He charged beneficiaries to make the best use of the money.

Earlier, Secretary of the committee, Alhaji Tanko Tale
explained that the 28 beneficiaries, comprising women and men, were picked from across the 21 local governments in the state, saying that each of them received N100, 000 each.

In his vote of thanks, Kogi state Secretary of council ulama’u ,Alhaji Baba’ango Idris, thanked everyone that contributed towards the successful hosting of this year’s Zakat disbursement.

Baba’ango explained that the beneficiaries were selected by the committee, including widows who are qualified to receive Zakat, saying that the disbursement was the third of its kind by the state council of Ulama’u.

One of the beneficiaries, Abdullahi Idris of Sharia court of appeal Lokoja, thanked the council for coming to their aid, saying that the money will be judiciously utilized.

Highlights of this year’s edition includes lecture and presentation of cash to the beneficiaries by Baba Ali,Iman Adam and representative of Maigari of Lokoja respectively.
