The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Saturday commenced the distribution of relief materials to persons affected by windstorm and Natural disasters in Lokoja/Kogi federal Constituency communities.
The Director General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar represented by Head of NEMA Operations,Justin uwazuonye
presented the relief materials to the member representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency,Hon.Sulaiman Aguye.
Uwazuonye, who commended the lawmaker for his resilience and commitments towards the welfare of his people said during the flag-off in karara, that the disasters occurred in communities of 2 LGA’s; Lokoja and Kogi .
He stated that a joint team of assessors from NEMA and Kogi SEMA carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the damage to determine need analysis of the affected persons. According to him, the problems with disasters are enormous and aftermaths of it are sorrow, isolation, grief, anguish, hunger and colossal loss of lives and property.
Presenting the items to the member representing Lokoja/Kogi federal Constituency Uwazuonye, acknowledged that the affected communities and persons were traumatised psychologically, thereby reducing their participation and contribution to national development.
Receiving the Relief materials,Hon Suleiman Danladi Aguye thanked the Federal Government for approving the relief assistance to the affected persons. He said that it would cushion the effect of the disasters that had ravaged so many homes and displaced so many persons.
Aguye also appreciated the synergy between SEMA and NEMA under the leadership of Umar and Atimah. He assured that the relief materials would be transparently distributed.
The presentation / Distribution ceremony was graced by a former house of reps member,Hon. Haruna Isah, former speaker,Kogi state House of assembly, Hon Abdulrahman Dangana.
Other includes, Commissioner for water Resources, Engineer Muhammad Danladi Yahaya Farouk, APC Council Chairmanship candidate, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, APC chairman Lokoja local government,Hon Maikudi Bature, stakeholders from Lokoja /Kogi federal Constituency among many.
