I will Consolidate On the progress made At Lokoja River Port,Says NIWA MD Oyebamiji

The Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has promised to build on the progress already achieved at the Lokoja River Port, Kogi state.

The MD disclosed this during a familiarisation tour of NIWA’s facilities in Lokoja.

According to the New Managing Director, the importance of Lokoja River Port being in the confluence state is to boost the economic viability of the state and Nigeria at large.

The assurance was contained via a statement signed by the General manager, Corporate Affairs, JIbril Darda’u and made available to journalists in Lokoja on Friday.
The statement reads:“We are here for facility tour to see for ourselves what is on ground at Jamata Port, Lokoja. It is important we come here to assess the facilities to see at least how we can move the facilities forward”.

Part of the area visited by the MD includes: NIWA Lokoja Area office, where he inspected the Dockyard facilities, where he was received by the Area Manager Engineer Titus Adoga, who took the MD round the Dockyard facilities.

At the workshop, the Area Manager said they fabricate boat engine parts and accessories for maintenance.

The MD promised to give all necessary support to the workshop to keep it functional.

Addressing staff of NIWA Lokoja Area Office at the Dockyard, the MD stressed the importance of staff to the development of the Authority by meeting their revenue target, and promised to look into their welfare.

In a similar development, the Managing Director also had an interactive meeting with the General staff of the Headquarters in Lokoja and encouraged them to work hard to give their best to the Authority. While he promised to give utmost priority to staff Training and welfare.

One of the highlights of the meeting, the Chairman of the Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNO/WTSSA) Comrade Suleiman Danjuma commended the Managing Director for the good initiative of this kind of interactive meeting by bringing the staff closer to the management. This will definitely boost the morale of the staff and pledge their loyalty and confidence in the MD’s leadership style.
