Kogi 2023: PDP Youth Leader Cautions Party’s Candidate, Dino Melaye to Refrain from Heightening Political Tensions

The youth wing of the People’s Democratic Party in Kogi State issues a caution to Dino Melaye, the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming November 11th election.

In a statement signed by PDP Youth Leader, Hon.(Prince) Oluwakayode Emmanuel Eseyin, obtained by THEANALYSTNG in Lokoja,on Friday, part of the statement reads:”We implore him to desist from engaging in actions that could disrupt the state’s peace before, during, and after the election.

This statement arises from Mr. Melaye’s recent press conference where he accused the state governor of sponsoring thuggery and leveled allegations against the state’s security agencies, which have been diligently working to ensure a peaceful election.

His attempts to create a controversy are unnecessary. What is the source of his information that emboldens him to address the Nigerian public with such damaging allegations? Claiming that the outgoing government is supporting thugs to disrupt the upcoming elections is uncalled for.

The allegations regarding police uniforms supposedly intended for certain officers appear to be a tactic to sow fear among the state’s residents and make them view the police as infiltrated. The scale of these allegations is absurd, and one might question the motives behind this kind of claim. I recommend that the Inspector General of Police kindly invites our candidate to provide further clarification for these sudden allegations.

Despite all the insults from our candidate directed at the APC government under the leadership of His Excellency Yahaya Bello, whom he has accused in various ways, the governor has never interrupted our rallies with the supposed thugs he is accusing him of. Even though we are an opposition party, there has been no mention of any form of attack on our candidate. Unfortunately, our candidate seems to be someone who cries both when he is being beaten and when he is doing the beating. I advise the people of Kogi to disregard such allegations and come out to vote, as the governor advocates for peace and unity.

Jumping to conclusions just for political gain is not a wise strategy. If this individual were your relative, what assistance have you offered to the family since his untimely passing, or do you simply want to create the impression that you are compassionate? Accusing a law enforcement officer on such a scale is unnecessary and unjust. Please do not abandon reason simply because of personal dislikes.

Elections are not a matter of life or death, and spreading allegations of this magnitude will not benefit anyone. How can one claim to have a list of individuals targeted for assassination without providing clear evidence? Humanely speaking, this approach is inappropriate. At this juncture, I kindly request that all security agencies invite our candidate for questioning.

I also want to express my appreciation to His Excellency, the Executive Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, for not allowing distractions or criticism to deter him from taking the necessary actions in the state to safeguard lives and property.

I assure our party members to remain calm and uphold the rule of law, as the elections will be conducted fairly, transparently, and credibly” the statement concluded.
