Many people have been reportedly burnt to death in an accident along Lokoja-Abuja highway in Kogi State.
An eyewitness said accident involving two trailers and several other commercial vehicles has reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday on the highway killing a yet to be ascertained number of commuters.
According to reports, an articulated vehicle coming from the Abuja-end of the highway was overtaking another vehicle after which it lost control and rammed into another tanker traveling towards Abuja, and laden with inflammable resulting into explosion.
The incident happened in front of the Local Government Council Secretariat, by the Federal Roads Safety Corps office in Koton-karfe.
All efforts to contact the FRSC for confirmation of the development proved abortive as its phone lines were not reachable.
The source however said personnel of the Nigeria Army were on ground to control traffic gridlock and to ease the free flow of traffic.
