Ahead of November 2023 Kogi state governorship election,the eastern senatorial District which constitutes 9 local government areas set up a committee to see the possibility of presenting adopting one unified candidate.
The committee according to a reliable source, was setup against the sham primary election,which our source alleged that one of the top contender from eastern senatorial District, Alhaji murtala Ajaka was rigged out.
Politicians from the area accross party line the source further revealed in a resolution reached at a meeting to set up a committee to nominate a candidate among the seven candidates that signifies their intentions to contest the forthcoming November governorship election.
The committee which consist of professionals and leaders from the area,is chaired by Alhaji Hassan Enepe and Dr Sule Odoma.
In their report which was submitted recently and adopted by Eastern senatorial District, have resolved through consensus choosing Alhaji Muritala Ajaka as kogi east consensus governorship candidate.
In a statement obtained by Theanalyst.ng in Lokoja on Saturday said
“The Committee has adopted Murtala Ajaka as best choice for governorship candidate in the 2023 election”.
The senatorial district which consists of nine local government areas, Idah, Ankpa, Omala, Dekina, Olamaboro, Ofu, Igalamela-Odolu, Ibaji and Bassa resolved to adopt the former member of APC NWC, in person of Alhaji Murtala Ajaka following his acceptability by the people of the area across party affiliations.
The deliberations according to the statement, was held at Anyigba, Dekina Local Government area,which revealed that Murtala Ajaka was agreed upon as the People’s Choice for kogi east Governorship race , “Ajaka is the ‘Unity Candidate’ for the next Governorship race come November 2023”,it stressed.
In a swift reaction, mallam Isa Mahmud said
“From the scenarios that played out by adopting Alhaji Muritala Ajaka by team of consensus professionals, I assure you that they will fail because there was no proper consultation with other eight governorship candidates from kogi east.
He further stated that the desperate act of the so called committee has further complicated the process of producing a genuine and acceptable consensus candidate from the east, turning the process into a mockery of all of us from the east before the eyes of other zones, he said.
