PDP crisis: Ayu Debunks meeting Wike in Port Harcourt

By Shatima Nasidi

National Chairman of
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Iyorchia Ayu has denied meeting with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State amid the crisis in the party.

Ayu was reacting to a viral photograph of him and Wike in Port Harcourt.

The PDP National Chairman said the photograph trending on social media was an old image.

Wike had been aggrieved with Ayu following his refusal to step down as PDP’s National Chairman.

The governor and his group, G-5 demanded Ayu’s resignation in compliance with PDP rotational policy.

Amid the crisis, Wike had accused Ayu of fraud.

Despite the allegations, Ayu has refused to resign, stressing that he would remain in office until his tenure expires.

But, the image appeared online on Wednesday, with the message that Ayu and Wike met in Port Harcourt to resolve the crisis.

However, Ayu’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Simon Imobo-Tswam said his principal never met with Wike in Port Harcourt or anywhere else.

Tswam linked the image to mischief makers who are spreading a false narrative.

A statement by Imobo-Tswam reads: “Dr. Ayu states clearly that: He never travelled to Port Harcourt and he has not set eyes on Gov. Wike lately.

“The photograph trending on the social media is an old one. The story accompanying it is, therefore, false and mischievous.
