It was a black Sunday as no fewer than 10 persons were crushed to death around 1.15 pm at the popular Gishri end of the NICON Junction, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
It was gathered that the accident involved a Toyota Camry and a Mazda which crashed into each other as other vehicles were coming from the Kubwa axis in Bwari area council ahead the city centre.
An eyewitness, Samaila Isyaku, said three other vehicles around the scene of the accident suffered collateral damages.
He said other victims of the crash included people in the affected cars as well as those waiting to cross the expressway and the prospective passengers waiting to board.
According to him, “We counted at least 10 dead bodies besides the numerous people that were fatally injured.
“The crash resulted from dangerous over-speeding and eventual loss of control. We suspect that those in the Toyota Camry were high on drugs and alcohol.”
Meanwhile, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had cleared the expressway of the wreckages and conveyed the injured to the hospital while the dead were taken to the morgue.
Efforts to reach the FRSC Sector Commander, Ochi Oga, for a formal statement on the accident were not fruitful as of the time of filing this report.
“People were just picking people’s legs and parts of the body. I have never seen such. From what I heard those guys were high, the guys in that T Daily Trust correspondent witnessed FRSC officials conveying the injured to the hospital and the dead to the morgue.
