Lokoja -Koton Karfe Forum has advocated power shift to Lokoja/ Kogi Federal Constituency,which consist of Lokoja and Kogi Local Government Areas of Kogi state, after the expiration of Governor Yahaya Bello’s tenure in 2024.
The forum which held it maiden edition of Townhall Meeting in Lokoja on Saturday, noted that this should be so for the sake of national cohesion, peace and unity.
The forum insists that the next Governor of Kogi state should come from Lokoja or Koton karfe part of the Kogi West Senatorial District of the state,for equity and fairness.
The called was contained in a speech delivered by the chairman of the forum, Alhaji Rajab Naibi,who urged Kogi East and Central senatorial Districts of the state to support Lokoja -Koton Karfe Forum on it agitations of power rotation come 2023.
Naibi, who commended members and stakeholders who attended the meeting, described as unfortunate the position of some Kogi-koton karfe indigenes who are insisting on retaining power within the two dominant senatorial Districts other than Lokoja/ Kogi Federal Constituency in 2023.
The Member Representing Lokoja Kogi Federal Constituency,Hon. Shaba Ibrahim, declared that for Kogi to sustain its unity, there is need for all political parties to zone the 2023 Governorship ticket to Lokoja/ Kogi Federal Constituency.
The lawmaker in a chat with Journalists further explained that the measure is required for justice,unity, equity, stability and cohesion.
While he warned against subterranean moves to zone the governorship outside Lokoja or Koton karfe local government areas,Shaba argued that the any political party that zone it Governorship ticket to the area stands a good chance of winning the 2024 governorship election.
The meeting which took place at Edge Drive Hotel Conference Hall Lokoja,has the blessing of politicians across party lines, traditional rulers , captain of industries,women and youth organizations.
Highlights of the meeting includes, adoption of the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting.
Part of the resolutions reached at the end of the meeting is to support any candidate for Kogi governorship seat that emerge from Lokoja or Koton karfe local government areas come 2023 irrespective of political party.
