NNPP Tackles INEC for Listing Shekarau as Party’s Candidate

By our Reporter

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has kicked against the publication of Senator Ibrahim Shekarau as its candidate for Kano Central Senatorial District.

Its National Chairman, Prof Rufai Ahmed Alkali, told Newsmen yesterday that the party has taken up the issue with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Shekarau, a one-time Kano State governor, was elected into the Red Chamber under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.

He dumped the APC for the NNPP after he failed to clinch a rerun ticket on the APC platform. He got the ticket under NNPP.

But Shekarau, who claimed his allies were unfairly treated by the Senator Rabiu Kwakwanso-led NNPP, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His name was published in the final list of National Assembly candidates released by INEC on Wednesday last week.

Prof Rufai said the electoral umpire erred by going ahead to publish Shekarau’s name as its flag bearer for Kano Central.
