The people of Lokoja/ Kogi federal constituency have declared that it’s the turn of the Constituency to produce the next senator that will represent kogi west Senatorial district at the red chamber come 2023.
The decision was taking in Lokoja on Monday during the well- attended meeting by Lokoja and Kogi local governments APC leaders, stakeholders, Commissioners, council chairmen,special advisers and special assistance among many.
In his opening remarks,convener of the meeting and special adviser to Governor Yahaya Bello on multilateral and SME,Hon. Sulaiman Aguye, said the people of Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency assembled to speak with one voice that the 2023 Senatorial seat be zone to kogi/ Lokoja Federal Constituency in the interest of fareness,equity and Justice.
Aguye, who disclosed that the people of Lokoja and Koton-Karfe karfe, Are solidly behind this agitations, explained further that since the inception of Democracy in 1999, it was senator Tunde Ogbeha,from Lokoja/ Kogi federal constituency that served from 1999 to 2007.
“Since then,Lokoja / Kogi federal constituency are marginalized,we convene this meeting in order to inform the world that it’s our turn to produce the next senator that would represent Kogi west Senatorial district on the platform of APC in 2023” Aguye said
Also speaking,state Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engineer Abubakar Bashir Gegu, maintained that they firmly stand by the decision of the stakeholders resolutions, suggestions by Lokoja and Koton-Karfe Caucus of the APC today , that the Kogi west Senatorial seat should rotate to Lokoja /Kogi Federal Constituency after the expiration of the incumbent, senator Smart Adeyemi, who is from Ijumu / Kabba federal Constituency.
Gegu said Ijumu/ Kabba Bunu federal constituency produced senator Smart Adeyemi who is serving his third term while the same Ijumu produced senator Dino milaye from 2015 to 2019.
“This agitations would continued unabeted, it’s an agitations that would liberates the people of Kogi / Lokoja Federal Constituency,from unnecessary domination by our brothers from Okun axis” Gegu said.
The Commissioner further stated that in term of voting strength,Lokoja and Kogi federal constituency still remains the deciding factors in all Senatorial elections held between 1999 to date.
He said that the agitations is not based on an individual interest rather is for the collective interest of Lokoja and Koton-Karfe,who are marginalized since the inception of Democracy. He therefore appealed to the people of the area to support the move by adding their voices to the agitations.
A motion was moved by former member representing Lokoja 1constituency,Alhaji Sulaiman Babadoko and seconded by Hon. Muhammed Tanko osuku.
In their goodwill messages, other speakers at the meeting, such as Hon. Sulaiman Ndalayi,SUBEB Chairman, Chairman Kogi state civil service Commission,Hon. Barr Muhammed Tanko osuku,Lokoja Local Goverment Chairman ,Hon. Danasabe and his counterpart from Kogi local Government,Mrs Jessy all supported the motions.
