The senator representing Kogi west Senatorial district, Senator Smart Adeyemi on Tuesday launched a free medical insurance programs for 1000 pregnant women in Lokoja and Kogi Local Government areas.
Adeyemi said the programme was necessary intervention for the pregnant women in Kogi west Senatorial district.
He explained that the pregnant women insurance program is in conjunction with Kogi state Health insurance Agency introduced by Governor Yahaya Bello
“This insurance program is in line with what we believe to be important and necessary as an intervention for our pregnant women to improve their welbeing before and after delivering,’’ he said.
Adeyemi explained further that Tuesday pilot program is for Kogi and Lokoja local government areas,where 1000 women were expected to benefit, while the remaining five local governments would follow immediately.
According to him, he key into the health programs of Governor Yahaya Bello to contribute to the development strides in the state.
“I key into this program to support Governor Yahaya Bello Health insurance scheme, you’ll recalled that in 2013, i distributed 25 ambulances to the three Senatorial districts, by October 2021, our outreach health programs for elderly men and women would take up across the Senatorial district” he said
He commended Governor Yahaya Bello and pleged to support his laudable programs.
The Senator appealed to APC members to forget any grievances that followed the just concluded APC ward congresses and forge ahead.
” We must put all misgivings and grievances aside, let us build a virile and strong APC under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello” smart appealed
He pledged to introduce students bussary allowances for students in tertiary institutions across the seven local government areas.
Earlier, Dr. Kule Aledare, Executive Secretary, Kogi State Health insurance Agency, commended Governor Yahaya Bello for introducing the agency.
He underscored the importance of the pregnant women insurance program introduced by Senator Smart Adeyemi.
“You may not know the impact of this program until you get to the people who are direct beneficiaries of the programme.
“Majority of them are venerable women, today’s program where over 1,000 pregnant women would benefit across two local government of Kogi and Lokoja, would go along way to impact on the quality of their lives.
Aledare appealed to other politicians, especially political office holders to key into the agency’s programs to alleviate the health challenges been face by the people.
He maintained that the program will turn around the lives of beneficiaries before and after they delivered their babies.
Representative of Lokoja Local government Chairman, Hajiya Fatima Salihu said Senator Adeyemi health insurance for pregnant women have gone beyond medical outreach to other spheres of human endeavour and called on other stakeholders to emulate the Senator.
Those who spoke at the event includes: Hon. Abdulkareem Isah ECOMOG, Executive Chairman Kogi local government area, Dr Saka Haruna, Commissioner for Health among others.
