Three suspects arrested in the murder of Mrs Eunice Aghanya, wife of a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Ebezimako Aghanya, were recently, arraigned by the Benue Police Command for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide.
The suspects, Frank Otukpa, a pensioner aged 63-years, Joy Tordue, a sales girl aged 21-years-old and Mary Ashar, a chef aged 19-years were arraigned before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court for contravening section 6(b) and 1(1), (2), (a), (b) of the robbery and firearms special provision Act and 222 of Penal Code Law of Benue State 2004.
The Prosecutor, ASP Gbakor Hyacinth told the court that, “one Benjamin Otukpa criminally conspired with others on the 12th March, 2021 at about 2pm, broke into the residence of Rtd DIG Aghanya’s house at Austin Iwar Street, Ankpa Ward in Makurdi and stabbed his wife, Mrs Eunice Aghanya with a sharp object on the head and she died instantly.”
According to the prosecutor, the assailant, Benjamin Otukpa, also made away with the deceased two assorted phones to an unknown destination. He further said the three defendants in court were arrested in connection with the crime during police investigations while Benjamin Otukpa and others are still at large.
Counsel to the defendants, A.J Ogbo Esq did not object to an application for a new date when it was raised by the prosecutor, while the Magistrate, V.T Kor Esq, adjourned the case to 22 April, 2021.
