FMC Lokoja closure: Kogi Assembly moves to interface for reopening

About two months after armed thugs invaded the Federal Medical Centre , Lokoja which led to the closure of the facility,Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, RT Hon Matthew Kolawole has described the lock down as worrisome and a matter of concern to the public.

The Speaker made disclosed this while ruling on the oral motion moved by Hon Umar Isah Tenimu, member representing Lokoja 1 state constituency on the need for the state government to intervene in the reopening of the hospital.

Kolawole directed House Committee on Health to interface with the Federal and State Ministries of Health as well as the management team of FMC, Lokoja so as to know the way forward towards the reopening of the institution.

He noted that the earlier this was done, the better for Kogians, just as he directed the Clerk to communicate House resolutions to the concerned.

Earlier, Hon Isah Tanimu Umar who stressed the importance of availability of good health institution to the people said the closure has caused untold hardship on residents.

While stating that common cases that could have been treated by consultants at FMC Lokoja were being referred to Abuja, he prayed that the state government intervene to ensure that the facility is unlocked for the benefit of residents.

Supporting the prayer, Hon Alfa Rabiu representing Ankpa11 and Hon Edoko Moses Ododo representing Dekina/Biraidu who both stressed the importance of availability of health institution to the masses, pleaded with the state government to intervene.

Also Mohammed Ahmed who described the motion as a good and timely one, suggested that the House Committee on Health interfaces with Federal Ministry of Health to ensure that the facility is reopened.
