Tragedy struck in Asaba, Delta State as mutilated body of 36 year old, Joy Obiageli was exhumed in shallow grave at her residence in government Residential Area (GRA) of the state.
The victim, an indigene of Okunzu community in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state was reported missing by the family members on 22 August, 2020.
Mr Sunday Onekanse, an uncle to the deceased said that he spoke to her two weeks ago when discussing her marriage plans.
According to the uncle , ” I called her about two weeks ago and she was talking about her wedding plans. After that I was unable to reach her.
“Then I alerted other members of our family to get to her house but all efforts were futile”.
Meanwhile it was gathered that the security man to the deceased, Mr Sunday, an Hausa was arrested on 26, August ,2020 with a Toyota Avalon Car belonging to the deceased at Summit Road road, Asaba after tips from concerned persons.
Investigation also revealed that the deceased had on several occasions reported her Co-tenant, Nonso Ekene to the GRA Police Division, for threat to her life.
Speaking to journalists at the scene of the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations (DC), Mr Faleye Olaleye said that; “On 27 August, 2020, our patrol team intercepted a Black Avalon Car with a man named Sunday but when they stopped him to search him, he could not proof the owner of the car so he was arrested and handed over to the DPO in GRA.
“He was interrogated but he did not give any coherent answer to how he came in possession of the car and was subsequently detained.
“Shortly after, the brother to the deceased walked in to the station to complain that his sister has been missing for the last ten days. He then recognized and confirmed the vehicle to be for his missing sister.
“Then he was informed that a man was arrested in possession of the vehicle after which he was obliged to see the man whom he identified as the security man of her residence.
He revealed that the security man did not confess to the crime till the 3rd August, 2020, when he led the Policemen to the compound where the body of the deceased was discovered in a shallow grave.
He disclosed that the Police has also arrested the Co-tenant, Nonso Ike for interrogation as to how the deceased was murdered and buried in the residence.
He however mentioned that the motive for the murder of the deceased by both men was not yet ascertained as investigation is still ongoing.
” Both suspects have been arrested and discovered where the corpse was buried and it has been exhumed and take to the mortuary” he said.
