NIWA,commissions 36 Seaters Ferry Boat At Yelwa -Yauri

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has commissioned a 36 seater ferry boat at Yelwa – Yauri, Kebbi State.

This was contained in a press statement signed by AlhajiJibril Darda`u,the Acting General Manager, Corporate Affairs,a copy which was made available to TheAnalystNG,on Wednesday in Lokoja.

Speaking at the ceremony,the managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA),Chief by Chief Dr. George Moghalu appreciated God for granting the
organization the opportunity to procured the 36,seater ferry boat onbehalf of senator Bala Ib’NaAllah the senator representing Kebbi South Constituency, as part of his Constituency project.

He acknowledged the Yauri emirate council for their support in fulfilling its official responsibilities as the host community.

Moghalu commended senator NaAllah for his commitment for his and desire to creat the enabling environment for water transportation to grow.

“The importance of water transportation cannot be over emphasized for both facilitating the transportation of cargoes and personnel in strengthening our economy and at the same time exploring tourism potentials of water transportation.

I want use this forum to also appeal to the government of Kebbi State to encourage NIWA by assisting it to ensure companies, organizations and the public that are using NIWA`s Right of Ways which is one hundred metres perpendicular from the point of River must made to pay their legitimate fees”. he said

In his speech,the senator representing Kebbi south, Senator Bala Ibn Na`Allah, promised to bring more developments to his constituents,stressing that as the 36 seater ferry being commissioned is just the beginning as two more ferries are on their way coming.

“This are just the beginning additional ferries from Lagos and China would so arrive.’ he promised.

He assured the people of his Constituency of his readiness to add more jetties in addition to the existing one in conjunction with NIWA to build ferry terminal.

The Emir of Yelwa – Yauri,HRH. Dr. Muhammed Zayyanu Abdullahi (CON) commissioned the new ferry boat for the general use of his people and there was a boat ride in compliance with the covid-19 safety protocols.

Earlier, the Managing Director of NIWA, Chief Maghalu paid a courtesy call to the Emir of Yauri, at his palace.

Receiving the delegation at his palace,the royal father raised three critical issues affecting his dormain,which includes: litigations, clearing of water hyacinth/removal of wrecks and the development of the Inland Waterways for the optimum benefit of his people.

Responding, the MD of NIWA promised to address all the issues raised by the Royal Father.
