Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state, has called on Muslim ummah to emulate the good qualities of the Holy prophet Muhammad and respect their parents as they usher in the month of Muharram,the first month of the Islamic calender.
The Governor made the called on Saturday in Lokoja, to commemorate the first month of the Islamic calender organized by Kogi state Council of Ulama’u.
The governor who was represented by Abdulmumin Okara,admonished that the celebration should not be only used to remember the migration of the Holy prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina,but to reflect on his good virtues and teachings in our daily affairs.
He also urged Muslims to use the period to pray fervently for peace, security and rapid socio-economic development of the state.
Earlier,the Chairman Kogi state Council of Ulama’u, Sheikh Adams Salman, called on Muslims to pray for peace and unity of the state and country at large.
He congratulated Muslims ummah on the occasion of new Islamic year and urged them to adhered to the teachings of Quran and Sunnah of the holy prophet Muhammad.
In a lecturer titled : “Youth involvement in social vices,
A challenge to Muslims ummah’, delivered by Barr. Yusuf Muhammed jami’u, described youths as the pillar of the nation,the treasure of the country, and reminded them that the civilization of any nation lay on their shoullders
“Youths occupy a prominent place in any society.we are one of the greatest assets any nation can have.
Youths played significant roles in propagation and spread of Islam across the globe. The Holy Quran ,and Sunnah and Islamic literature attest to this fact,” he said
He stated that fornication and adultery are amongst acts which are seriously frowned at among the muslims ummah
Jami’u lamented at the rate crime is rapidly increasing, especially rape cases, this vices he said, is due to fall out of moral decadence in our society.
He said spiritual leaders,concerned goverment parastatals , religious Community and media have
a vital rule to play in orientating our youths.
Highlights of the event include: presentation of merit award to Governor Yahaya bello, which was performed by His Royal majesty, the Ohimege Igu of Koton Karfe, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Isakoto, Unveiling of this year calender, by the Chairman of the occasion,Hon. Shaba Ibrahim among others.
Muḥarram is the first month of the Islamic calender.It is one of the four sacred months
mentioned in the Holy Quran.
The other months are the seventh month, Rajab, the 11th month, Dhu al-Qi’dah and the 12th month, Dhu al-Hijjah.
