Democracy; Nigerians have not benefitted from democracy – Na’abba

Former speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’abba has said that the lives of Nigerians are not better today than before 1999.

Na’abba stated this in an interview with BBC Hausa on Wednesday after honoring an invitation by the Department of Security Service (DSS).

The former lawnmaker said only some politicians who made money illegitimately have their lives improved.

He explained that he was invited by the DSS based on misleading press reports.

“Some newspapers circulated a story that we are going to lead people to carry out a mass action in the county.

“That is not our intention.

“Our intention is to mobilize people in order to create awareness on how democracy can be corrected.” He said.

Na’abba added that the DSS neither threatened nor disrespected him.

“They honored and respected me and we talked at length about many issues affecting the country.” He said.

It could be recalled that Na’abba and Pat Utomi, the co-chairmen of the National Consultative Front, NCFront, had last week convened a press conference.

They urged Nigerians  to join forces with the movement for the nation to rise again.

The NCFront’s call on Nigerians triggered the Department of Security Service (DSS) to invite Mr Na’abba for questioning.
